Today saw the newly formed men's 3s travel to Glasgow to face Clydesdale's Development XI. There were debuts for F Bailey, J Carr & L Drysdale-Mills.
It was a glorious day on Glasgow's south side and the youthful Dumfries side started the game well and moved the ball around neatly. The youthful energy was hugely positive for the team and they battled well and took the lead early in the second quarter. A turnover high up the field saw T Law play the ball to J Bennett at top D, he slipped the ball to L Drysdale-Mills who rounded the keeper and slotted home, 0-1. Dale equalised very shortly afterwards via the tall forward who picked up a ball in the D and scored in the bottom left corner, 1-1.
The second half started well for the Dumfries team with T Law finding himself in acres of space on the right wing. Dumfries would capitalise on this in the 3rd quarter in a sweeping attacking move that wouldn't have been out of place in the Paris Olympics! J Callander took the side line hit in the left back position, playing it to I Callander at centre back. He played a long through ball to T Law on the right wing who burst forward into the space before playing an inch perfect pass to F Bailey on the penalty spot who swept the ball home to give Dumfries the lead, 1-2. Again, the lead was short lived as Clydesdale equalised again with a great piece of individual skill in the D saw their forward beat 3 players, round the keeper and slotted home, 2-2.
The game ended in a 2-2 draw in a greatly spirited game which saw both sets of players get some great experience on the pitch. Well done to the debutants, two of whom managed to get on the scoresheet. An excellent display as the boys continue to develop.
