Dumfries Ladies’ 2s travelled to Helensburgh for the return
fixture against Loch Lomond HC, eager for a better result and
better weather than at Dumfries in February. The 11 players
took to the pitch for a 1415 hours passback. The match turned
out to be a great game, with great play from the Dumfries team
(including 2 Loch Lomond players - Jess in goals, and Lottie
in left defence). Early play was fairly even between the 2
teams, and it was Loch Lomond who scored first in the second
quarter of the game. However, Dumfries enjoyed a lot of
possession in the Loch Lomond defensive half, and as the 2nd
quarter/first half was drawing to a close, a run down the
right by Emily, led to a good cross into the D, and Effie was
on hand to sweep the ball past the Loch Lomond goalkeeper – an
equaliser for Dumfries and a first league goal for Effie.
The final 2 quarters of the match, saw Dumfries work hard for
each other, and in summary, they frustrated Loch Lomond -
defended short corners, broke up their attacks, dispossessed
them, and worked the ball up the pitch. … Great defending from
Helen; Brooke; Lottie and GK Jess, great linking play and
tackling from the midfield - Angie; Emily; Anna; Eilidh and
Gladys, and great running and pick-ups from Effie and Beth
upfront. There were no more goals, and Dumfries had a draw –
the desired improvement on the home loss. Well played girls,
and congratulations to Helen who was voted Opposition Player
of the Match and to the Captain’s Players of the Match - Beth,
in her debut, for all her running, and to Effie for her well-
deserved, first league goal. A big Thank You to Loch Lomond
for providing both umpires for this match.
