Dumfries 2’s took on Clydesdale 5’s in a friendly fixture following the 3rd XI’s first competitive game against Clydesdale’s Youth Team at the King George V last Saturday. Having agreed to play two halves of 25 minutes for this fixture, Dumfries started brightly with the sprinkling of experience amongst the team helping the youngsters to settle into their rhythm but this was well matched by Clydesdale and a very evenly contested game ensued.Chances were created by both teams and the more experienced Clydesdale players kept the Dumfries defence of Macklin, Redman, Scott McFarlane and Liam Mills on their toes and this was backed up by Keeper Moscrop who dealt with anything that got through comfortably, as well as a mis-directed pass from his Captain that caused a moment or two of panic for all involved. The Dumfries side also created chances of their own with the midfield of Milne, Rennie, Brown and Kershaw linking well with the initial forward line of Campbell and Max McFarlane and from one of these, Max broke the deadlock with a well taken goal to end the first half 1-0 ahead.Turning round at halftime with further words of encouragement from the senior players in their ranks, the Dumfries youngsters continued to play well but Clydesdale with their experience maintained the pressure on the home side trying to find an equalising goal but despite creating numerous openings the home side’s goal remained intact. Dumfries also created further chances of their own however through some quick breakaways with youngster Josh Campbell possibly having the best of these opportunities but he failed to score leaving the final score at full time 1 – 0 to the home side. This was a well-deserved win all around for the Dumfries side with the youngsters involved playing their part throughout a well contested and sporting match.Grateful thanks from all involved to Gladys McClymont and Georgia Marshall for umpiring the game.Team Line Up:S Moscrop (GK), T Macklin, M Redman (Capt), S McFarlane, L Mills, W Milne, A Rennie, F Brown, F Kershaw, J Campbell & M McFarlane.
