Dumfries welcomed Uddingston 4s to a sunny KGV with the home side finally finding some
good form after a shaky restart post-Christmas. The men in red put the visitors under
immediate pressure and made the breakthrough after 10 minutes. The ball was turned over
in Uddingston territory and Aitken slipped Johnston in on goal, who finished first time into the
bottom corner. 1-0. The early pressure continued and before the end of the first quarter,
Dumfries doubled their lead. Another break gave Steele time to find Johnston in the D, and
his square pass was tapped in at the back post by McFarlane. 2-0. After a quick drinks
break, which was needed in the warm spring sunshine, Dumfries continued as they left off
and it wasn’t long before the men in red scored their third. The initial shot at goal from a
short corner was blocked but the ball was kept alive by Kershaw, his pass found Johnston
and another square ball to the back post this time was tapped in by Brown. 3-0. Dumfries
dropped off at the end of the second quarter and Uddingston scored just before the halftime
break. 3-1
HT 3-1
After some more well-earned fluids, the third quarter started the way the second ended, with
Dumfries on the back foot and Uddingston dominating the ball. However, for all their
possession and territory the Dumfries defense and Oakes in goal were relatively untroubled,
with the third quarter ending without any major incidents. After the last drinks break,
Dumfries were more like themselves and put Uddingston under pressure again. This
pressure paid off when McFarlane’s pass found Kershaw at the back post who tapped in for
his first goal for the first team. 4-1. The scoring didn’t end there, Dumfries were awarded a
penalty flick in the last few minutes when Johnston was barged down in the D. He dusted
himself down and placed the flick into the bottom corner. 5-1.
FT 5.1
A well-deserved three points for Dumfries as they make it 3 wins out of 3, with a tricky home
game v Clydesdale to come next weekend.
